Nerja

50km east of Maliga is what once was the tiny fishing village of Nerja which since the 1980's has expanded to a population of 16,000.

Nerja's main focal point is the Balcon de Europa, justly named as one of the most beautiful promenades on the coast.

Nerja really comes alive during the festival of San Isidro in the caves in May and on the eve of San Juan in July featuring the best beach party of the year.

The biggest attraction in Nerja is the Cueva de Nerja. These are world famous caves descovered in 1959 by a local boy whom you can now find in the summer months cooking paella over open coals on the famous Burriana beach.

There are some 300 bars and restaurants in Nerja, many of them excellent. Most of the dancing and late night drinking spots are found around plaza tutti-frutty.
